Driven by concern for the nation’s progress, a group of activists from diverse academic backgrounds agreed to establish an economic and political research institute to promote development that supports the broader public, especially underserved communities.
The initiative began with a retreat held in the Puncak area of Bogor on January 25, 2025. On that date, the establishment of GREAT Institute was agreed upon under the leadership of Syahganda Nainggolan.
GREAT Institute views President Prabowo Subianto as having a people-centered vision aligned with the institution’s mission: a just, prosperous, and equitable society. The institute considers President Prabowo’s ideology, reflected in his programs and public statements, to be significantly different from the previous government’s more neoliberal approach.
Therefore, GREAT Institute seeks to contribute by strengthening people-oriented ideas in President Prabowo’s public policies through discussion and research. The institute focuses on four main areas of study: food and energy security; democracy and human rights; downstream industry and industrialization; and geopolitics.
