Foreword
With gratitude and great enthusiasm, we are launching GREAT Institute—a think tank institution that drives the advancement of thought, born from the pulse of the history of movements, particularly the spirit of the 1998 Reform movement, which continues to burn in the hearts of its founders.
Led by Dr. Syahganda Nainggolan and supported by activists across generations, this institution is present to respond to national challenges through a progressive, scientific research approach grounded in the values of Pancasila.
The name “GREAT” is not merely a symbol of greatness. GREAT is an acronym for Global Research on Economics, Advance Technology and Politics—the main pillars that form the foundation of our studies. In an increasingly complex world that is often biased by interests, GREAT Institute positions itself as a critical partner for policymakers, media, academia, industry players, and the people who long for a development direction that is just, rational, and data-driven.
This launch is not merely a ceremony. The launch of GREAT is a statement of stance: that ideas must once again lead the direction of the nation. That public policy must once again be subject to scientific argument, not oligarchic pressure. That Indonesia’s development must once again side with humanity, not merely growth statistics.
Amid a crisis of trust in formal institutions, we believe that the role of independent think tanks is crucial. GREAT Institute exists to amplify voices that are often forgotten: the voice of reason, the voice of the people, and the voice of the future. We do not only study, but also engage. Not only prepare policy briefs, but also build networks—from local to international.
In closing, we invite all parties—academics, activists, bureaucrats, journalists, and the wider public—to synergize with us. Let us make common sense and moral courage the compass of national development.
Warm and hopeful regards!
