Jakarta – Geopolitical analyst Abdullah Rasyid assesses Indonesia’s move to join the Board of Peace (BoP) as a precise and measured diplomatic strategy in fighting for Palestinian independence. According to him, the “from within” approach taken by the Indonesian government opens up a greater sphere of influence compared to remaining outside the forum.

He explained that the decision made by President Prabowo Subianto cannot be separated from global geopolitical dynamics, including communication with United States President Donald Trump regarding the 21-point peace plan. Within that scheme, there are strategic opportunities in points that pave the way for peace dialogue and Palestinian self-reliance, which are deemed can only be effectively fought for if Indonesia is inside the decision-making forum.

“Joining the Board of Peace is a smart move. Indonesia is no longer merely voicing support, but is actively participating in shaping the direction of global policy. This is a tangible form of active diplomacy,” Rasyid said.

Indonesia’s participation alongside Muslim-majority countries such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Pakistan, and Qatar is seen as strengthening the collective bargaining position of the Islamic world in pushing for a fair and peaceful solution for Palestine.

Furthermore, Abdullah Rasyid appreciates Indonesia’s active role in encouraging the involvement of the Palestinian Authority in Gaza, including opening access for security apparatus to maintain civil society stability. He views this step as a concrete form of Indonesian support that is not only political in nature, but also touches on humanitarian aspects and post-conflict governance.

“Security stability is the primary key. Without it, reconstruction will not progress. Indonesia fully understands that the Palestinian struggle is not just about diplomacy, but also about restoring the lives of its people,” he emphasized.

The Board of Peace itself holds a major mandate in coordinating the reconstruction of Gaza, which suffered severe damage due to the conflict. With infrastructure destruction reaching approximately 80 percent, this forum is expected to mobilize global support to rebuild hundreds of thousands of homes, schools, and healthcare facilities.

According to Abdullah Rasyid, Indonesia’s involvement in this forum is also in line with the tradition of international diplomacy it has maintained through the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. He emphasized that Indonesia continues to uphold its free and active (bebas aktif) principle, including keeping the option open for evaluation if participation in the BoP no longer aligns with the main objective, namely Palestinian independence.

“The most important thing is that Indonesia is now at the negotiating table, not just on the outside as an observer. From that position, the opportunity to tangibly fight for Palestine becomes far greater,” he concluded.
