Abdullah Rasyid also praised the political move by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, saying, “Several sources mention that he is the figure behind this decision. This has a very strong constitutional and moral foundation,” he said.
Rasyid added that the President and all state instruments involved in this process carry a dual responsibility: restoring justice, while also improving the national legal structure to make it fairer, more transparent, and more constitutional.
He further stated that the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Kementerian Imigrasi dan Pemasyarakatan) is fully ready to process the implementation of the Presidential Decree.
The Ministry of IMIPAS also encourages that this amnesty and abolition policy become part of a strategic step in reforming the national criminal justice system, including integration of inter-agency data systems, strengthening restorative justice, and improving more transparent and accountable legal governance.
The Presidential Letter to the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Number R43/Pres/07/2025, which proposes amnesty for 1,116 people including Hasto Kristiyanto, as well as abolition for Thomas Trikasih Lembong, indeed came as a surprise to part of the public, especially because the legal cases involving both political figures had generated sharp controversy and had become part of national political discourse in recent months. A number of observers consider these cases to contain political nuances, and therefore public responses have been highly diverse.
